THIS POSITION
Performs judicial and legal support, specialized administrative,
clerical, financial, cash handling, and customer service functions
in one or more areas of the Magistrate Court. The successful candidate shall promote confidence in the judiciary and have a passion to serve the community. Essential functions, as defined under

In this position you will:
• Apply legal terminology
• Prepares and processes cases such as misdemeanor, civil traffic, parking violations, and orders of protection in compliance
with legal requirements and procedures.
• Reports convictions to other agencies.
• Assists the magistrate by preparing hand written orders, preparing and cancelling warrants, recording and dispensing information as requested, and providing related clerical support.
• Enter, edit, and retrieve data utilizing court-specific computer
software.
• Provides accurate information to victims, attorneys, defendants, and the general public. Resolving various levels of customer service needs at the clerk counter and over the phone.
• Process payments, updates financial records, returns appropriate change, issues receipts, and balances daily cash drawer.
• Perform file management functions.
• Audits and verifies court-specific software data against files
for discrepancies and takes corrective action.
• Reviews court case files for accuracy and completeness, determines next appropriate action and forwards files for proper
handling.
• Monitors cases for compliance with court orders including
restitution, jail time, defensive driving school attendance, counseling, and community service.
• Prepare and mail form letters providing court dates, fine
amounts, and general court information.
• Efficiently performs and completes tasks and other related duties assigned or required.
Need to have/be:
• Overall education and/or experience equivalent to one (1) year
full time clerical/office support including records retention,
cashiering, or criminal justice.
• Computer skills in MS Window, MS Excel, MS Word, MS Outlook.
• Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication,
division, and percentages.
• Excellent attention to detail, good organization, and effective
communication skills verbally and in writing.
• Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment .Ability to
make independent decisions following procedures.
• Interpret and follow complex rules, regulations, and procedures.
• Provide quality customer service and handle difficult public
contact situations in a positive and professional manner at all
times.
• Follow written and oral instructions
• Read, understand, and accurately complete legal forms and documents.
• Establish effective working relationships with court staff, city
staff, and the general public.
• Teamwork and displaying a positive attitude towards customers
as well as co-workers is essential at all times
• Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities is
qualifying.
Compensation:
The salary range is $15.82 – $22.14. Starting salary is typically at
entry level of the range. The Town provides a full range of benefits
including no-cost to you health coverage and a generous retirement
package.
